Tennessee Dental Association Welcomes New Executive Director
The Tennessee Dental Association (TDA) Board of Trustees announced Andrea Hayes as the association's next Executive Director after a nationwide search. Hayes brings extensive experience in association management to the TDA, focusing on organizational strategy, governance, and membership retention. Her appointment is effective on November 1, 2020.
She replaces Interim Executive Director Dr. DeWayne McCamish, who oversees day-to-day operations and led the executive search.
"We are thrilled to welcome Andrea Hayes to the TDA," Dr. McCamish said. "The goal of the Board of Trustees was to find a person who would lead the association in an upward trajectory. I am confident that Andrea's experience, accomplishments, and proven leadership skills will have an immediate and positive impact."
Hayes joins the TDA from the Nashville Dental Society (NDS), where she has served as Executive Director since 2013. In her current role, Hayes is responsible for all aspects of membership recruitment, engagement, and retention. In addition to supporting daily business operations at NDS, Hayes has served in several committees at the American Dental Association (ADA), including the Membership Advisory Committee, the Executive Director Advisory Committee, and the Association of Component Society Executives of the ADA (ACSE).
Under Hayes' leadership, NDS has become the most extensive local component of the TDA leading in membership growth among young dentists. Hayes created a robust sponsorship program for the society, streamlined member communications, and enhanced the society's annual activities.
"The opportunity to serve in an organization that makes a difference in the oral health of communities across Tennessee is an honor," Hayes said. "I look forward to working with the association's leadership, staff, and partners to support member dentists and forward the mission of the TDA."
Hayes is actively involved in several professional organizations, including ACSE, the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), and the Tennessee Society of Association Executives (TNSAE).
Her experience in association management spans more than 20 years. Prior to her NDS role, she was the Vice President of the Tennessee Trucking Association & Foundation and the Director of Communications for the Tennessee Hotel & Lodging Association.
Hayes is a Certified Association Executive (CAE). She holds a Master of Arts in Leadership and Public Service from Lipscomb University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Vanderbilt University.
